MYSORE SELF PRACTICE
@ The Wellington Centre
Tuesday 17.45 - 19.45
Wednesday 09.30 - 11.30
Thursday 17.45 - 19.45
Mysore Self Practice is the traditional way of learning the Ashtanga Yoga method. Under the guidance of the teacher each student gradually learns and memorizes the set sequence of postures at his or her own pace. Instead of leading the class, the teacher gives each student individual instruction and hands-on adjustments. It’s almost like a private lesson but with the benefit of the group energy. This method allows for the student to practice silently, with increased inner awareness, and so slowly, over time, begin experiencing the moving meditation that is Ashtanga Yoga. Self-practice classes always have students of mixed levels and abilities practicing side by side. Initially, to learn the system, you will need to allow approx. 45 mins for a class, building up to about 1 and ½ to 2 hours once a full series of postures is being practiced.
If you wish to commit to practicing Mysore Style regularly there is an option to pay in advance for
a block of 6 or 12 classes to reduce the cost per class
Suitable for: Students of ALL levels are welcome. Visiting students with an existing practice are welcome too.
If you're not quite ready to jump in, then why not take the ASHTANGA YOGA INTRODUCTORY COURSE
Testimonial about Mysore Self Practice (view more here)
"I am now taking part in Andria's Mysore Self-Practice class, where we learn the Ashtanga Yoga sequence at our own pace. I can only recommend this, because it allows you to find and follow your own rhythm of breathing and movement and to remain more focused. As you gradually remember the sequence yourself, you can do your own practice at home without constantly wondering which posture comes next. Andria is always present, helping and guiding when you get stuck at any particular point during the practice, showing you modified versions of any of the postures if they are too challenging still and offering advice and support if and when you need them." - Annika
